Every morning, Becca Cotugno meets the members of Speed Crew outside of Alma del Mar Charter School in New Bedford, Massachusetts, for a few laps around the block before the bell rings.To build the Speed Crew, Cotugno recruited students whom she believed would benefit the most from regular exercise—particularly those with attention and focus concerns. Research supports the use of physical activity in children who struggle with being able to focus, especially those with ADHD.

Cotugno realizes that the improvements she sees in her kids may be more correlation than causation, but that’s not stopping her from keeping them moving.
