How Jeopardy's producer ended up as the front-runner to replace Alex Trebek

New York "Jeopardy!" executive producer Mike Richards is in line to host the beloved game show starting in September.

Sources with knowledge of the process say it is effectively a done deal, though it may not be announced until later in August.Variety reported Wednesday that"Richards is clearly the front-runner" and is in"advanced negotiations" to helm the show.Richards has ample TV hosting experience in addition to his producing credits. Still, word of his front-runner status prompted many quips about the head of the search committee picking himself for the coveted post.

He was bad. This is like in corporate America when they hire an internal person for a job but have to post a job publicly or even interview candidates for compliance reasons. Jeopardy wasted all the viewers’ time with the parade of (often good) hosts they never intended to hire.

Not my choice.

Mike was the best so far. Clear speaking and spontaneous to contestants suggestions. Professional with a smile like Alex but offers his own hosting abilities.
