Less than 24 hours later, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that the country would change its gun laws.Unlike Australia, New Zealand had relatively lax gun regulations and a powerful gun lobby.

New Zealand’s Parliament voted almost unanimously for a law that bans most semiautomatic weapons. Here’s a look at the new law. Police shot the 51-year-old denturist dead at a gas station. Court documents showed that he was armed with two semiautomatic rifles and two pistols. He did not have a firearms license, and some of the weapons were smuggled in from the United States.

Mexico, Honduras, Salvador ban all guns and yet their murder rate is one of the highest in the world. Switzerland where gun ownership is mandatory, has one of the lowest homicide number in the world.

I live in Australia. I woke up this morning and turned on the TV news. The usual mix of weather, sport, traffic reports, human interest stories, etc. No mass shootings. In fact, no shootings of any kind. 🤔
