With movie theaters shut down around the country, find out how coronavirus could impact Hollywood forever

COVID-19 is already heavily impacting Hollywood and the entertainment industry. With movie theaters shut down around the country due to social distancing and shelter-in-place rules, there is hardly any revenue being made during this key time in the film calendar. Some theaters have been forced to close for good and lay off employees, and even nationwide chains like AMC Theatres aren’t safe.

Several movies, like “Onward” and “Birds of Prey,” released on video on demand and streaming platforms early to help recoup some of the ticket sales they missed out on in theaters. Some films, like “Trolls World Tour” and “Artemis Fowl,” have decided to skip the theatrical window entirely and release solely online.

Theme parks, like Disney World and Universal Studios, are normally huge money makers for their respective owners, but they remain shut down, too, to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Theatres will not be able to recover after this. They were already dying on the vine. VOD and OTT are king now. Pay Per View on your home 70' screen with surround sound, popcorn, drinks and the fam for under $20.

Likely not, as people have a choice! In the theaters, only “choice” is what is on the menu. Online the selection is an all you can eat buffet!

Until we run out of new content…

I hope it goes away and stays away
