It's almost always 'short supply' though. That doesn't do it justice. I do blood bank in our hospital and I've never seen it like this before. It's pretty dire. Arguing with doctors whether we should give blood to certain patients or not

What is the point? You will never receive blood without being tested for group, type and antibodies. No card or records will be sufficient.

The simplest way is to join the military. They will tell not only tell you but will make you wear it around your neck on a little piece of metal so you don't forget.
Why isn’t your blood type on your drivers license? Isn’t that as important if you’re in an accident as whether or not you’re willing to donate organs?
