.BoJackHorseman's latest season gives the audience a 360-degree view of how assault can change a victim's life.

illustrates another cost of abuse: the implicit kind that occurs when victims are unable to metabolize their own mistreatment in a way that’s deemed acceptable, slowly getting edged out of public life as they try—and fail—to be who they were before being assaulted. The Gina we knew before was a sharp-edged, funny, show-tune-loving professional with a lengthy career behind her.

The saving of Gina’s story until the half-season’s final episode suggests that the remaining episodes, which will premiere in 2020, will see BoJack face some sort of reckoning; this season BoJack finally learns that he’s more than his flaws, but it’s time for him to see that he can’t outrun their consequences either.
