That was based on my actual review of the iPhone but I haven’t had a chance to review the Vision Pro. Sadly, I wasn’t even able to get to the keynote in person this year, but I did watch the stream and had that same sense of excitement I had when Jobs would introduce new products.Cook, an extremely competent CEO, doesn’t have the charisma that Steve Jobs had but, perhaps because he is a bit understated, he might have more credibility.
With Jobs it was the messenger more than the message that sucked me in. With Cook and his Apple colleagues who introduced the AR headset, it was the message itself. Apple presented what appears to be the first headset I might seriously enjoy using, and I’ve logged quite a bit of time on various other headsets including Meta’s Quest Pro. But the key phrase is “appears to be.
But even if it doesn’t disappoint, $3,500 is a lot of money to spend on a consumer technology device, especially since Meta plans to introduce its next generation Quest 3 for under $500. Let’s hope that Meta steps up to the plate with a device that’s lighter and more pleasant to wear and use than the Quest 2 or even the Quest Pro, with truly useful augmented reality features.
.” Unlike Tim, I haven’t had a chance to try out the headset but I’m inclined to believe him when he wrote “The Vision Pro experience was amazing and transformational. It is fundamentally a Mac in headset form.” I hope he’s right and I hope the device, or one’s like it, become more affordable over time.
