"I remembered my former roommate in D.C. a couple of years ago was transferred to Qatar," Reneau explained."She said she worked in the U.S. Embassy in Qatar... she was sure her boss would approve helping the girls.""She wrote up a request, and I got all of their passports together," Reneau said."She went back to the embassy at midnight and worked all night to prepare the documents packets for the girls.
"It’s very narrow window of opportunity," she said of the effort."I knew that if I didn't run through that door now — it’s now or never. Sometimes you only get one chance.""We were able to get them on the U.S. military side , so they were protected over there waiting the next text I got was that they were airborne," Reneau said. The girls were flown to a secure location, where they will be able to pursue higher education.
Reneau told TODAY she was initially hesitant to celebrate, but when she knew part of the team was out, she became emotional. At the time of publication, Reneau and a team of people in the Middle East were still working to help 25 additional girls from the robotics team, as well as their mentors, leave Afghanistan.
This impressive woman graduated from Harvard, with a masters in international relations and US space policy, is on the board of directors for a nonprofit focused on Mars exploration, is ALSO an author... And your primary title for her is 'mom of 11', ByKaitHanson . For real?
ByKaitHanson Great story. The online version has a couple of issues, though. One typo: 'knew she need to use her network,' should be either 'she'd need' or 'she would need' and one possibly confusing construction: 'Reneau, the mother of 11 children who graduated from Harvard'...
So proud of you mom!! You’re an inspiration ❤️ prayforafghanistan mom prouddaughter allysonreneau1
