“I understand that the statement has been that they have shown interest,” Kubosh said. “Is there any empirical data other than the council members willing to do it? Has there been any measure of the community itself over a period of time? That’s what I’m looking for.” “When we get into actually working with them on the conservation districts, we'll be looking at these planning activities, building permit activities, and seeing where the development activity is going,” Wallace Brown said. “It's also walking around and getting a feel and knowing these communities intimately and knowing what they identify in their character and how we can help them maintain that character.”These Houston neighborhoods are evolving through gentrification.
District C Councilmember Abbie Kamin echoed Gallegos’ statement. She represents Freedmen’s town, a historic Black neighborhood that saw most of its original structures demolished in recent decades.
