House Ways & Means Chairman Richard Neal said Thursday he will introduce a resolution of disapproval if President Donald Trump goes ahead with tariffs on Mexican imports.
Trump is planning to slap tariffs on imports beginning Monday over what he says is Mexico's failure to stem the flow of Central American migrants to the U.S. "Commandeering U.S. trade policy to influence border security is an abuse of power," Neal, a Massachusetts Democrat, said in a statement. Some Senate Republicans have also criticized Trump's tariff plan but it's unclear if there are enough to override a presidential veto.
