House Republicans pass bill to limit drawdowns on Strategic Petroleum Reserve

Days before the vote, Biden's Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said at a White House press briefing that the bill "would impose unnecessary, unhelpful restrictions on when the SPR can be used to help provide supply." But Republicans counter that the size of the overall 2022 release, 180 million barrels, was excessive, and that individual releases and announcements about future releases were timed for maximum political benefit for Democrats.

The restrictions need to also include a clause that only allys the SPR to be used for Americans.

SPR was formed in response to oil shortages in the 70’s. Now that we are one of the biggest producers it’s not nearly as necessary to have it. We should build reserves when prices are low and release when prices are high. Just sitting on it doesn’t make sense anymore.

Good, prevent it from being depleted by senseless presidents like Biden.

Makes sense. 40% of it was drained in 1 year. No moves were made to increase production during that time. Production rose by less than 500k barrels per day. Just like munitions to ukraine we have specific safe guards for emergencies not for elections
