The House of Representatives passed a bill along party lines Thursday that seeks to lower gas prices by cracking down on alleged price gouging by energy companies.

The House vote was 217-207: no Republican supported the bill, suggesting it's likely headed for failure in the Senate.

Four House Democrats joined Republicans in opposing the bill: Reps. Jared Golden, of Maine; Lizzie Fletcher, of Texas; Stephanie Murphy, of Florida; and Kathleen Rice, of New York. "The American people don't need political gimmicks," the Florida congresswoman said."They need actual relief, and there's a host of things that we can do that would deliver immediate relief for the inflation issues."

"It just, you know, seems like we're treating oil and gas like Big Tobacco, and sometimes they're unjustly targeted. And that's something that's really concerning," Gonzalez said. He ultimately supported the bill.

Bothsides BullShit from CBS….Headline SHOULD READ….‘ Republicans Vote AGAINST America & Lower Prices for GAS!’ Any attempt to water down the Overt Obstruction as “Normal” Politics is FRAUDULENT. CBS C-BS is as bad as ABC!

This really sucks... like how do they expect? Some country we have here folks land of the free my ass, united we stand...yeah not really. Government can kiss my ass

Do nothing Democrats. Too little, too late. That is their mantra. It's time we remove the virus, which is the Demoncrats.

Alledged my ass.

Watch the republicans block it

Every single Republican just voted against a bill to protect us from gas stations gouging us at the pump! WTF!

That's not the problem and you know it

It’s about time!

The House of Representatives, without republican support…

Hey CBS, I know you’re just trying to do your best and avoid being sued but it’s just a bit too cute to use the term “alleged” in describing gas gouging. I think it’s a good bet if big oil sued you if had not, you’d win. And you could stand taller in our eyes. Have some spine.

Biden’s gas prices Has risen every month except for 2 since Nov of 2020 - thank you FJB

Wait? We had no way to crackdown on price gouging before?

How about it’s because the supply is scarce? Of course prices are going higher. We are no longer self-sufficient. We need to open the pipeline.

This is how you frame this? Wow

Republicans just like to complain. No interest in fixing anything or making anything easier for Americans.

Alleged 🙄 come on now

Republicans truly are the 'No' Party. Let us go back to the days when republicans had common sense, and could work bi-partisan.

Smashing records in OIL PROFITS for the top 5 oil companies BUT you still think it’s about expanding leases? Call the oil companies and tell them to stop price gauging and to produce to the capacity they're allowed and not artificially cause a shortage. votebluein2022.

What coward uses the word allegedly? The top 5 oil companies shattered records and made over $100bn in record profits in the 1st quarter of this year alone. The volume and availability hasn’t changed, just the prices. It’s intentionally to influence consumers in an election year.

Comical…pols say they want to end gouging, but they won’t b/c big oil lines their pockets. They inquire, but don’t ask the right questions. They don’t want big oil to admit. Increase in crude oil should not immediately cause pump increase!

toys ,not pharma

Travel bans and quarantines hit petroleum companies hard. Price gouging the public shouldn't be considered a legitimate recovery.

It wouldn’t pass politics get a lo of money from this companies.

Ramblingrose100 We could eliminate price gouging by changing tax law to add a 10% of earnings tax to all corporate board members when the corporations on whose boards they sit are found to be participating in this behavior. If board members had a risk, they would act differently.

And the Republicans who couldn't kill it in the house will in the Senate. They don't even pretend to be for America anymore.

More smoke and mirrors from democrats

Hoped they start in Florida. Our state government threaten to prosecute those who are, but in reality they ignored them.

They're 0-2 on reducing gas prices so I'm certain it's gonna work this time

House passes bill to crack down on gasoline 'price gouging'A closely divided House has approved legislation to crack down on alleged price gouging by oil companies as prices at the pump continue to soar. Big oil? Big meat? Big baby formula? It’s amazing they’ve only become greedy in the last 6 months😳 Closely divided means that the Democrats voted to address the problem of oil companies price gouging and the Republicans voted against addressing the problem, as it helps them politically. Let’s see how many companies they get. My guess is NONE. The DEMS always use the “price gouging” scenario when the horrible policies cause the economy to crash. This isn’t the first they’ve used this
