Four people, including an Austin police officer and the suspected shooter, are dead after a hostage situation ended in a shootout in a South Austin neighborhood early Saturday morning. It happened in the 9300 block of Bernoulli Drive after a woman called 911 at 2:29 a.m. and said someone was stabbing her, according to Austin police. Officers arrived less than 10 minutes after the initial call, just off West Gate Boulevard, not far from Cowan Elementary School.
Officers learned that there were two people inside the house with someone believed to be the suspect, who was armed with a knife. A third person was able to escape the home with injuries. She was taken to a hospital by Austin-Travis County EMS medics, authorities said. The attacker began shooting at officers when they entered the house, forcing them to retreat. No one was hit by those gunshots, police said. That's when SWAT was called to the home at 3:06 a.m
