Hospital groups sue to block a Trump administration rule that would force them to disclose their negotiated rates with insurers

Hospital groups sued to block a Trump-administration rule forcing them to disclose secret rates, for the first time laying out the industry’s legal strategy for defeating the president’s central health-policy initiative.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday says the rule compelling the hospitals to publish their negotiated rates with insurers violates the First Amendment and goes beyond the statutory intent of the Affordable Care Act.

Another example of a health care system's evolution that was granted anti-trust exemption decades ago; unlike those in countries with benchmark practices that incidentally do not allow. Our system is grossly distracted by the interjection of negotiated profit in our health care.

America desperately needs OneNationalStandardHealthPlan w/ OneNationalProviderNetwork & OneNationalHealthRiskPool NO MATTER WHO PAYS, or MedicareforAll!

Greedy. Freedom of assembly?Transparency would show that you care for people more than you care about your wallets.

Can anyone stop the healthcare cronies.

The party is over with overpriced items.

Price transparency rule must pass. Insured patients paying out of pocket has the right to pay the same price their Insurance has negotiated on their behalf. Some major hospitals groups hide lower pricing and overcharges the patient. Completely unethical business practice.

Generally negotiated pricing is proprietary, under current law. Insurance companies compete with each other for the best pricing.

HedgeyeEEvans HedgeyeHC is there an actual argument to justify?

Anything to keep gouging the American people..

It isn’t a first amendment issue.

not-for-profit health systems are by far now more corrupt than their for profit counterparts.

The names of those groups should be published as much as possible to let people know which hospitals are trying to screw them over. If your against transparency, you are trying to hide something negative, period.

As the Framers intended

If the hospitals hate it, it must be a great policy.

Secret rates? Maybe the bigger question is why insurance companies put all hospitals in defensive positions in the first place.

The world needs an NHS system, no arguments and absolute transparency on who’s making what

So wait.. privatized US health care really isn't free market? Consumers don't actually have the ability to know what the true cost of their health care is? Shocking.

Is there any other industry that’s allowed to provide services without disclosing prices ?

The heads of the medical world are refusing to show how much they rip people off!? I'm shocked!!!

and that should tell you just about everything why it costs an arm and a leg to get medical care in the US

Pretty telling. This arrangement between providers and insurers keeps patients from making sound financial decisions concerning their healthcare. These providers are essentially fighting to keep their ability to gouge and financially ruin their patients.

I agree there should be transparency here, but I turn it around on POTUS too. Let's have a little transparency on finances, tax returns, etc, from Dirty Don just like other presidents have provided!!

WHAT HAPPENS MR. PRESIDENT realDonaldTrump, IS THIS THE EXAMPLE OF YOUR BUSINESS?

I want to know what every insurer contract is. We all should know.

Screw them.

Sounds like a good idea to me

Because they have a guilty conscience.

The fees are out of control. Go President trump.

Imagine that, hospitals not wanting to embrace transparency....who'da thunk it?

So we know the hospital groups are not on the side of the patient. How about the same transparency requirement on insurance companies and other middle-men? Something tells me none of them are on the side of the patient.

So they can continue to screw millions of sick Americans out of their money

Obnoxious. It is your treatment. If it's covered by private insurance, we get the bill showing the cost and what insurance covered.

Why are they fighting this? Simple solution: Encourage doctors and hospitals to publish their prices for all their services and actually charge that rate, like a restaurant or an autoshop. You want market forces to fix things? put them into place.

Some hospitals are a rip-off of patients, their families.

Hospitals Dr.s Pharmacies Labs ALL providers should be transparent. I agree with Trump. Particularly when we are saddled with paying the difference if insurance denies or doesn't pay 100%. Hell yes. Show me the prices.

Some of the things need cleaning I hate trump but at least he cleaning healthcare hopefully he buddy doesn’t open a healthcare insurance or facility greedyonepercent

Free Markets are only a PR term for excessive profits. Partial monopolies is how the Corporations operate. Transparency is in no mission statement. We are fools to think our financial system operates like a small business - shop - on main st. - competing for customers.

They must be afraid of people exercising their right to shop around and compare

What do they have to hide? Healthcare is such a mess in the US.

Everyone should have access to how much a hospital or doctor charges. Part of the problem with our healthcare system today that drives up costs is no one knows how much anything costs.

Of course they do. Why on earth would consumers want to know the price of a procedure before purchase? She says sarcastically. Always better when we can shop for best service at best price.

But, why?

Ahhh behold what Trump hath wrought: More lawsuits! This will definitely ensure that health care is made available to all! Praise God! Narrator: And Lo it came to pass that nah.

Insurance Cos. and the NRA have something in common ---They both are holding a gun to our heads!!! We need to get rid of BOTH!!!

The medical industry is so screwed up even Trump can do something to make it better.

.Go Trump....expose real problems with health care..... Next Drugs... If only Dems would help.....

I’m just about the opposite of a socialist, but I still think that everyone should pay the same price for the same medical care. Maybe a 10-20% negotiated discount could be allowed for insurers.
