Two horses died over the weekend at Belmont Park within hours of the running of the 2023 Belmont Stakes.

Two horses are dead after injuries sustained in separate races following the Belmont Stakes in New York.The Associated Press reported that Excursionniste pulled up in the far turn and had a catastrophic injury to its left front leg.”

"Devastated. There's just no other word. He was our big, goofy, talented, crazy, 1 for 16 NYB superstar. We do everything as a team, and will console as one for quite a while," the horse's owners said."We'll miss ya, Ex. This group loves ya." PETA is calling on racing officials to conduct CT scans to screen for preexisting injuries before races.
