Despite a renewed focus on wrongful arrests and racial discrimination after the death of George Floyd, meaningful reform of the massive U.S. criminal justice system is unlikely ahead of the November election, politicians and activists say.

A toxic relationship between some city police departments and their communities was highlighted by the May death of Floyd, an unarmed Black man who died after a white Minneapolis police office pressed his neck into the pavement.

“They’re farther apart than ever,” said Randy Petersen, a former police officer and now senior researcher at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a conservative group. On June 25, Democrats in the House of Representatives passed a police reform bill that Republicans have said they are unlikely to support. A day earlier, Democrats in the Senate blocked the Republicans’ reform bill. Both sides have accused the other of acting in bad faith.

Republicans claim Democrats, in a position to potentially take control of the Senate and the White House in the November elections, want to avoid giving the president a police reform bill he can sign or a victory he can tout.

Anyone knows that it will take time to change thing so give the only man who had kept his words to the American people and that Trump...not a man like Biden who as he did last time, Biden wanted into the White House he promised the back voters he would help them but did nothing

Maybe focus on criminal reform of the criminals who are shooting 50+ individuals in major cities each weekend.

Yeah you BLM boneheads. dems blocked any chance for reform. BlacksForTrump

It takes more than a day. I mean it’s been like this fir over a hundred years.

If true, hopefully we can change that come 01/20/21.

Ahead of the 2020 election. Duh.

Start to the Politicians because they are the one to be blamed they indorse them

My hopes haven't faded . God save America, Amen.

Expected ,as long as this mess ,corruption and instability prevail.

If you really want to reform the justice system, there has to be a major focus on the societal problems that lead to crime, like underfunded education, low wage work, addiction, mental illness, affordable housing, etc.

Good--this is local, not Federal, stuff. (And 'massive criminal justice reform' is not needed, to begin with. Let's fucking get real.)

Time to hit the streets! No justice, no peace!

Let’s get some BodyCameraDockets up and running NOW!

I haven't heard a single good policy idea in all this mess. The only policies offered were from the far left fringe. Regurgitated ideas from the failed Bolivarian revolution.

The biggest lapse by policymakers in the symbolism over substance narrative about ending systemic racism is the complete sidestepping of the most damaging machine in both the lives of the poor and minorities, the drug war. It steals time, money, property, voting rights & lives.
