Hong Kong's Chief Executive held a closed-door meeting with about 20 protesters on Monday

Most of the young people who on Monday spoke with Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor in a landmark dialogue session had taken part in anti-government marches, organizers of the meeting have told theGovernment officials stuck to its plan to meet first with moderate young protesters before reaching out to more vocal and radical activists, a source familiar with plans tosaid on Tuesday.

Lam on Monday afternoon held a closed-door meeting with about 20 protesters, most of whom were in their 20s and 30s. She was accompanied by Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung Yun-hung and Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah.in Hong Kong, also attended the meeting. The three youth groups said they invited young people from various backgrounds to attend the meeting.

Casper Wong Chun-long, the deputy chairman of centrist group Third Side, who attended the meeting with Lam, said he joined the marches in June but he disagreed with the violent protests that had shocked the city in recent weeks.unpopular government bill “It is not a question of not responding, it is a question of not accepting those demands,” Lam said on Tuesday before meeting. She said the outbreak of violence and radical tactics made it inappropriate for the government to accommodate the protesters’ demands.
