Facing pressure after a huge peaceful march, Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said she would immediately begin dialogue with people from all backgrounds and political platforms

By holding a massive peaceful march after two months of tear-gas-soaked demonstrations, Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement has stepped up pressure on the city’s Beijing-backed leader, Carrie Lam, to enter into dialogue to resolve the crisis.

The stakes are high for Mrs. Lam, who is widely blamed for allowing local opposition to an extradition law she proposed to mushroom into a full-blown antigovernment protest movement capable of putting hundreds of thousands on the streets chanting for everything from her resignation to...

Bewitched9 I hope she gets somewhere!

Too little, too late. There is no faith. Step down.

After two months of beating with baton, teargasing, shooting with rubber bullets, arresting randomly, she now said open dialogue. Six people killed themselves out of despair and hopelessness. Too little too late HongKong HongKongProtests PoliceBrutality

Lol lip service. Let see the police arrest the pro-government who stabbed and knives the protestor last night first. As well as the white-shirt gang on 721 then maybe people will warm up to you.

Step down with whole goverment

Are the 'leaderless' protesters and those politicians selected for dialogues having same objectives?

There were some missing pieces to the story. Like her not offering any concessions, but will talk.

It’s just a lie and she will keep letting hk police to silence the opposite voice!

Beijing won’t let this lady go, if they did which means HKers can decide the chief officials and that will be a black lash for Beijing.

they should talk . Always .

Ah the great smell of democracy!

Isn't the message loud and clear? It calls for your resignation, not a dialogue. You keep on calling for sobriety & to save HK from the consequential economic turmoil, yet you, as the leader, can’t comprehend what needs to be done, and to make the ultimate sacrifice of resigning

Lady, step down!

How ludicrous! More than 2 months of protests, 800 protestors arrested, 5 committed suicide, 1 girl lost her eye and many more injured, some severely; and Govt thinks their willingness to slowly begin dialogues will be acceptable to milllions of HK people?

Pressured? She was smiling today! Something I haven't seen in along time! 特首加油!😂😂😂

1 peaceful protest dont hide the kidnapping and criminal actions at the airport by these kids

HK police tortured & abused an old man while holding him under arrest in hospital, including ripping off victim’s trousers, using a baton to jab his anus and the privates, beating him up.. This is a clear violation of LAW & a torture against human rights. freeHK dismissHKP

'immediately'

As tensions between pro-democracy protesters and Hong Kong authorities continues to grow, the Canadian government says it is working on a plan to assist the 300,000 Canadians who call Hong Kong home (one of the largest Canadian diaspora in the world)

Peaceful March Heaps Pressure on Hong Kong Leader to Start TalksBy holding a massive peaceful march after two months of tear-gas-soaked demonstrations, Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement has stepped up pressure on the city’s Beijing-backed leader Carrie Lam to enter into dialogue to resolve the crisis. You can’t have protesters dictating things. It wouldn’t happen in the U.K., hasn’t happened in France & shouldn’t happen in HK. We have lost all our senses. China will rightly not stand back while riots & civil disorder plays out. No serious gov would. They are a proud nation. What’s the point to talk with someone with no autonomy to even withdraw the bill? Unfortunately Government ignoring Hong Kong’s million people protest again. Freedom is not free. Hundreds of brothers and sisters arrested, charged, injured, sexual assaulted, two of them having permanent vision impairments. DemocracyNow or never.

Hundreds of thousands march peacefully in Hong Kong as police stand downHong Kong streets were turned into rivers of umbrellas on Sunday as hundreds of thousands of people marched through heavy rain down a major road in the Chinese territory, where massive pro-democracy demonstrations have become a regular weekend activity. Organizers said at least 1.7 million participated, though the police estimate was far lower. The problem here is that the H.K Gov. has zero power to do anything about it. China controls the H.K Gov. and China will never give up power over H.K, which is what these protests are really all about. In 48 years, China takes back H.K and applies all Chinese laws over the people
