The first History of the World, Part II trailer reveals the sequel to writer-director Mel Brooks cult classic comedy, History of the World, Part I, 40 years later. The original film hit theaters in 1981 sporting a star-studded ensemble cast including Madeline Kahn, Gregory Hines, Dom DeLuise, Harvey Korman, and Cloris Leachman.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The 96-year-old Brooks returns as a writer for the first time since 2005's The Producers remake starring Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane, and introduces Hulu's trailer for History of the World, Part II. The trailer takes a hilarious look at important moments in human history while confirming members of the upcoming series' extensive cast. Alongside Ike Barinholtz, Nick Kroll, and Wanda Sykes, the trailer reveals Seth Rogen as Noah, Zazie Beetz as Mary Magdalene, Taika Waititi as Sigmund Freud, Ronny Chieng as Kublai Khan, among many others.
The upcoming series will stream on Hulu and consist of eight episodes. Beginning March 6, the show will air two episodes for four consecutive nights, concluding March 9. Multiple time-periods from world history will be covered, both preceding and following the events of the original film. Previously released History of the World, Part II first look images revealed that the new series would cover Russian Revolution, and Shirley Chisholm's 1972 Presidential run.
The new trailer confirmed those time-periods and showed many more. With History of the World, Part II likely to be Brooks' last work, he may take the opportunity to use the format of the series to look back at his career and revisiting classic jokes and settings like the American West of Blazing Saddles and Medieval England of Robin Hood: Men in Tights. With the show set to premiere on Hulu this spring, audiences must be patient to see the coda of Brooks acclaimed career.
