“Certain fruits—pineapples, oranges—not only have an effect on the taste [of your vagina] but also, it can impact the smell,” says Dr. Kecia Gaither, a double-board certified OB/GYN and maternal fetal medicine specialist at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in New York. “When you use a lot of douches and things to effect the smell, it can in fact eradicate a lot of the beneficial bacteria that is in the vagina,” she says.
A writer from Self did take the matter into her own hands in 2016 with a “vagina taste experiment” where she ate five different foods–one of them being pineapple—to see if her boyfriend noticed a difference during cunnilingus. Chen, MD, a reproductive specialist at the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science at Saint Barnabas in New Jersey.
