... [+]The last twenty months have been brutal. The world still suffers from a tragic virus outbreak. Families have seen loved ones fall sick and succumb from the disease. Millions lost their jobs. Anxiety, stress, depression, substance abuse is at an all time high. In the U.S., our media is dividing us into warring tribes, resulting in anger and non-stop arguing and fighting, adding a layer of simmering tensions.

What makes people strong is the ability to find the light in the dark. It's easy to point to all the negativity and let it weigh us down by continually carrying around this burden. There’s another alternative. Instead of focusing on what is wrong with the world, now is the time to start a new way of looking at things. This Thanksgiving Day, try to think about everything you are grateful for and all the good things and people in your life.

Block out all of the noise, negativity and distractions. Demonstrate your gratitude and appreciation for everything good that you have. It will have an immediate and exponentially large impact on your life, as well as the lives of people around you. Religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism, all weave elements of gratitude into their practices due to its importance. Gratitude is a mindset in which you appreciate all of the goodness in your life and its pleasures. Think of your blessings and good fortunes—no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. It could be as simple as the smile of your child when you come home from work, a beautiful sunset and your cat or puppy beside you.

Steve Pemberton, CHRO of Workhuman, a fast-growing Social Recognition and performance platform, says that you should thank your workmates for the specific things they do that you especially appreciate. Feel free to tell them how you feel about them. Make this a regular practice. The recipients will beam with pride.
