National Weather Service meteorologists are telling Arizona residents to avoid drinking alcohol, caffeine and sugary drinks as high heat grips the region and much of the nation.The arrival of summer is bringing excessive heat across several states this week, including the first heatwave of the season for the Midwest and Northeast.
'NWS meteorologist Ted Whittock told Newsweek that temperatures forecast for Phoenix are above average for this time of year. Typically, Phoenix highs are around 106 degrees.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that there are an average of 702 heat-related deaths each year in the U.S. When working in high heat, the CDC says that people should drink one cup, or 8 ounces, of water every 15 to 20 minutes, which equals 24 to 32 ounces of water per hour.
