HBO chief says Andrea Arnold – director of BigLittleLies – knew going in she would not have 'free rein' on season two

Big Little LiesSpeaking to reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour, Bloys stood behind both Arnold and the show's executive producers, including season one director Jean-Marc Vallée, in defending how the show came together., HBO said, "There wouldn't be a season two of without Andrea Arnold. We at HBO and the producers are extremely proud of her work.

Bloys noted that as an executive producer, Vallée was involved in the script stage and had dinner with Arnold prior to filming, so he did not just jump in during postproduction. Nor, Bloys added, did Vallée have "directorial carte blanche" in season one; his vision for the show and that of the other exec producers happened to align.

Showrunner David E. Kelley and the producing team, including stars-exec producers Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, "asked [Vallée] to come in and help hone the episodes. It's not unusual at all to ask an executive producer to come in and help.

Hate to say it - but I don't think any amount of editorial oversight could have saved what was a very boring, unnecessary, pointless overall story arc. There just should not have been a season 2 at all. Why is this a controversy? That's how TV works.

New HBO doc looks at race bias in criminal justiceThe documentary 'Who Killed Garrett Phillips?' looks at racial bias in criminal justice. “Until politics are taken out of the prosecutorial process, these stories will need to be told,” the film's director says. Murder was already committed by Caucasians with the 'Manifest Destiny' doctrine. Murder of indigenous peoples worldwide and theft of their land and their natural resources doesn't constitute a crime when whites do it? I'm sick of racists trying to make Blacks seem like animals. Just another day of race baiting I imagine most mass murderers are also Black? Only African-Americans are doing opioids? Just stop it! The Holy Scriptures says: no-one is righteous no not one.
