Hayley Williams readily admits that she doesn’t really consider herself a fashion person. This makes her appearance at the Collina Strada show yesterday, smack-dab in the middle of New York Fashion Week, one of the most surprising moments of the season so far.
Each season, Taymour carefully curates the artists whom she works with, based on both their shared values and their genuine interest in the brand. Last spring rising New York singer-songwriter Zsela performed alongside a verdant farmers market, while this season Taymour tapped Williams as well as Colombian-Canadian singer Tei Shi to take part in the show. “Hayley and I just met, but I was so impressed with her demeanor,” Taymour says.
Williams has been a longtime fan of Collina Strada—she admires the brand’s distinct silhouettes and Taymour’s gleeful pattern clashing in particular—and when it came time to pick out her stage outfit, she let Taymour have complete control. “This was my first fashion show and I just wanted to embrace the whole moment and surrender to it,” Williams says. She ended up wearing a checked red and yellow dress and a tie-dyed sweatshirt in shades of soft seafoam green.
It was an auspicious Fashion Week debut for Williams, but since she’s in the middle of preparing to release her album, she’s had to decline most of the other invites she received. “I would die to see Helmut Lang, Dries Van Noten, JW Anderson, and Fenty,” Williams says of her ideal fashion month lineup. “Maybe next season?”
