In response to an uproar on campus, Harvard University decided this weekend to remove law professor Ron Sullivan from a dean's post after Sullivan had signed on as a member of the team defending disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein. Ironically, Harvard's decision comes just a day after Sullivan told the Manhattan judge overseeing Weinstein's case that Sullivan would, in fact, be leaving the defense team.
Weinstein spokesman Juda Engelmayer told ABC News Saturday evening that Weinstein"is extremely grateful to Ronald Sullivan for his work with him until now, and for Ron's offer to advise where he can going forward." Weinstein is due to go on trial in September on charges of rape and sexual assault. He was arrested nearly a year ago and is out on bail.

So much for the innocent until proven guilty adage that people pretend to believe in. Everyone deserves a vibrant defense. To punish a lawyer for doing his job is ridiculous.

He chose to defend Weinstein, they chose to remove him from a Dean's post. These are called consequences to decision we consciously make. That's why you should think first.

He hasn’t lost his academic position. He lost his job as Head of a House, an administrative position that, among other things, adjudicates complaints of rape. Even before Weinstein, students were unhappy w a number of dismissive comments he made about vics.

This is inappropriate no matter how you feel about the defendant. Our system of justice doesn’t not have a special clause that condemns the defendant’s attorney. This reeks if is actually the way it is being presented.

As a woman, sure that sounds reasonable. As an attorney, who understands that everyone deserves representation, that is blatantly the wrong position for an employer to take, unless, there were clearly defined policies in place that Professor agreed to.

Complete cowards Harvard ! I'm not a lawyer or historian, but I know John Adams defended the British after the Boston Massacre and he went on to become president. That's what defense lawyers do!

As much as I think Weinstein as a scum bag, it is wrong to terminate an attorney for defending a client. Everybody has the right to an attorney(s) to defend them. If attorneys were blocked or infringed upon, that is a breakdown of our constitution
