Deputies with Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office recently assisted Texas Department of Transportation crews in clearing underpasses along State Highway 249 and FM 1960.
“This is an ongoing issue that puts not only the persons living under the bridges at risk but it is also a concern for the safety of the citizens,” the Constable’s Office reported.
Sweeps serve two purposes: to displace the houseless while destroying their possessions or to find ‘cause’ to make arrests.

I was in a restaurant two days ago. I had noticed a guy panhandling at the nearby intersection on the way there. This restaurant is hiring. but the guy came in asking for a meal, not a job and he was perfectly fit and not even weird looking.
It's caused by travelers choosing to camp out and panhandle. It has evolved in the last few years. It's not just mentally ill people anymore. We need to help those. We don't need to help moochers.
Chasing people from under well-lit bridges into the woods doesn't help the homeless. You don't have to parrot what TXDoT says.
