Harris challenges Biden in breakout U.S. debate performance

MIAMI - Presidential candidate Kamala Harris dominated her Democratic rivals in a debate on Thursday, confronting front-runner Joe Biden on race and calling his remarks about working with segregationist senators “hurtful.”

Biden, who was on the defensive throughout the night, has faced heavy criticism for his recent comments that he worked decades ago with two Southern segregationist senators as a way to get things done in the U.S. Senate. “I was 6 years old when a presidential candidate came to the California Democratic convention and said it’s time to pass the torch to a new generation of Americans,” Swalwell said. “That candidate was then-Senator Joe Biden.”Biden responded: “I’m still holding onto that torch. I want to make it clear.”

“Donald Trump has put us in a horrible situation. We do have enormous income inequality,” Biden said. “The one thing I agree on is we can make massive cuts in the $1.6 trillion in tax loopholes out there, and I would be going about eliminating Donald Trump’s tax cuts for the wealthy.” When asked if their administrations would support covering healthcare for immigrants in the United States illegally, all 10 candidates on the stage raised their hands in the affirmative.

“America does not want to witness a food fight. They want to know how we’re going to put food on their table,” Harris said, drawing applause from Biden.

We already heard you can keep your doctor and hospital from Obama what liars....long lines and wait times for the simplest of procedures...look at how the government runs the VA health system...if they treat veterans like crap how will they treat regular citizens...no thanks

SenSanders I think your 10-minutes of fame moment is over. Please leave and make room for a younger and more energetic KamalaHarris. She is smart, and articulate and knows how to stand her ground against a bigot and bully.

Not a huge Bernie fan ... but he is right. If I had Government supplied health care, not only would I be willing to pay more taxes (because I don't have to spend on it), but also corporations would ditch one of their fastest growing expenses and should be willing to pay up.

Did you know Lester Holt is a Republican.Did you know Clarence Thomas is a Republican. It’s almost impossible to answer complex questions by a show of hands. As we well know, providing healthcare in America is a big industry,with many benefactors.The consumer is last on the list.
