Tart's trash truck is equipped with a robot arm to lift the cans, but he can't always keep a healthy distance from the garbage. He worries some of the extra trash he's handling might carry traces of the coronavirus. While residential trash bins are overflowing, dumpsters sit empty outside vacant office buildings and hotels. But the commercial trucks that ordinarily empty those dumpsters are not easily reassigned to residential neighborhoods.
"We have seen a whole lot of neighbors organize themselves to actually take collections to these centers," Garbark said."Everyone has to work together, because we can't get through this alone." "They don't realize how much they need us until something happens where their trash doesn't get picked up," said Miller, the Ohio trash collector."They want to put it out in the morning. And when they come home in the afternoon, they want it to be gone. That's what I want when I put my trash out."
Here’s where we begin to see how essential - essential workers are. They should be paid and respected accordingly.
Under pay people, don’t provide enough benefits, expect them to work year round, make them sit in something which smells like a McDonald’s dumpster, and expose them to diseases from almost every vector. . . And it’s hard to find replacements?
We need to stop talking about this now, because most of these cities are democrat run cities, and we need to make sure people feel comfortable with Democrats running their cities.

My amount of garbage has not changed at all.
Only in big blue cities full of dumb democrats.
That’s good honest work. There are lots of protesters complaining about the lack of full-time work.

Forget about toilet paper -- when public sanitation, water treatment, and electric are in jeopardy, modern society itself is on the line.
Hard to find replacements? If my back wasn't messed up I'd take the job. They get paid handsomely, and the benefits are awesome, and it's not rocket science. I've know a few people in this line of work that have done very well for themselves and their families.
uh.. nah that's just nyc
Who the F is staying home? The super rich? I’ve worked every day
Same people, same trash... garbage collectors out sick, short staffed
Any stats on office trash? I would imagine it decreased by the same amount or more.
But restaurants would be putting out a lot less garbage.
Mine was the same.
Why do big cities always seem to have trouble with their trash service? I have never had my trash 'pile up' for more than a few days and that is only when 'trash day' was on a holiday or the aftermath a hurricane made travel impossible. Maybe it helps turn out angry voters?
The Lefty mayors are only concerned with fomenting chaos, using false narratives about black men being shot by cops. Crime is soaring, children are not being educated, the local economy is collapsing. It would be nice if the press would hold them accountable.

Ok...how much did commercial trash volume decrease?
While we're talking about taking out the trash, defund the police and use the money to pay for more sanitation workers. Give the existing ones a raise, they're great people. ACAB
Those stock market profit taxes will clean this right up, no Wait? What? The only profits right now are not taxed? Who let that happen?
yup.
What about all the trash that bars, concert venues, theaters, and restaurants are not adding to the landfills?
But it would seem there was far less trash from commercial people so how is this even an issue
Solution...hire more drivers. Solved.
