The original movie remains one of Adam Sandler's most iconic to date, on par with the likes of Billy Madison and The Waterboy.
I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, "McDonald, you’re gonna love this." I said, "What?" He says, "How about that," and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2. Maybe you should cut that out because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, "Well, that would be awesome." So, it’s in the works.
However, McDonald's account of Happy Gilmore 2's progress is actually in line with a rare update Sandler provided two years ago, in which he revealed that he was open to a sequel and hoped to make one someday. Sandler even suggested a plot where Gilmore would participate in a senior golf tour. Still, this is one of the few mentions of a sequel Sandler made in decades, and in recent years, he has been very busy with his Netflix collaborations.
