Like his other projects, the YouTuber starts off with a massive slab of wood that he cuts into the basic shape of the. Given how boxy the off-roader is, he didn’t have to spend too much time crafting out complex shapes and incorporating flowing design lines.
With the basic shape of the Mercedes now formed, he begins to work on some of the finer details, cutting out the passenger compartment and using basic tools like a chisel to perfect the fender flares. He then glues in a set of B-pillars and installs the doors before cutting out door handles just like those of a real-life G-Wagon. It is really cool to watch and shows just how much you can do with simple tools and a keen eye for detail.
Of course, it’s not just the exterior of the Mercedes that has been crafted from wood. The entire cabin has also been hand-made and is so detailed that it includes a complete dashboard, seats with cross-stitching, and a steering wheel. Woodworking Art even created a functional chassis for the G-Class with suspension components and a faux exhaust system. It even features a Mercedes-Benz grille, license plates, roof racks, red brake calipers, and folding wing mirrors.
