Please stop trying to steal all the holidays. .. you know who you are 🤣
Control freaks
So half the kids will show up for Utah Halloween, and the other half will show up on the real Halloween, or most kids in Utah will just get double Halloweens. Won't be confusing at all.
How about we're just give parents an extra $5 tax deduction and they buy candy themselves for their kids
How about on the 31st? That sounds good to me.
Why? Why is this important enough for someone to introduce a bill? Another waste of time by people who want to control everything
How is this even a question
Keep Halloween on the 31st and leave it alone.
What a waste of tax payer resources. There’s ACTUAL problems in Utah mfs.
October 31st. Simple. If it falls on a Sunday, observe it on Saturday.
When? How about…wait for it….Halloween
This is silly. No one is going to agree to that.
Halloween is not a Federal Holiday!! The banks, Post Office or government buildings don’t close on Halloween!! Why is this issue, using tax payers money, even being discussed
We managed fine as kids with it being in the 31st, and if it fell on a sunday we just did it Saturday. Costume parades at school being the Friday before makes more sense cause its halfday and less likely to ruin their costumes. I think making a 'law' is pointless.
All this will do is permanently confuse people. Half will celebrate on the actual day, and the Karen’s will celebrate on Mormon Halloween. Always.
'Some families, especially in more predominantly Christian communities' You mean Mormon or LDS. This has not been a problem in other states I lived in. And I lived in the Bible belt for 10 yrs. Why is it suddenly such an issue when it hadn't been for us when we were a kid? 1/
On Halloween 🎃
Halloween is October 31st. Can't we just keep celebrating it then?
Another 'my trip should be your trip' example of trying to legislate everyone. The Cullimore family is soooooo litigious I think they would sue anyone that celebrates Halloween *ON* the 31st. of October.
Culturally that is just a wildly inappropriate assumption and religious prejudice. Halloween is an important religious day for many. Wow.
On October 31st!
Um... October 31st
Why is this a thing that needs to be decided by legislation?
It should be celebrated on the 31st. Do they not realize that Halloween is a religious holiday for some folks? How would they like it if people tried to move Christmas?
On Halloween . Duh. When else you celebrate Halloween! Damn how stupid can people be . We might as well cancel every holiday !!! Soon we will be left with just one and and that will prob be some made up one about only wearing your left shoe or some crap !
What utter nonsense 🙄
So many people in the comments didn't read the article and it shows. He's not really 'changing Halloween', just encouraging organizations and businesses that work with kids to host their events the Friday before. It's so kids aren't out late on weeknights.
🙄
Can we focus on the things that matter here? Can they focus on finding solutions for housing, the homeless, the increment in crime, education, water conservation, etc.?
On Halloween that's the only day I'll hand out candy if it lands on your precious Sunday so be it .
Well this is Utah. No one ever knows when to truck or treat because of the church. If Halloween is on Sunday it gets moved to Saturday but we don't do that if it's during the week.
Why? Why does this have to take up so much time and money when it’s already an established day? There are more serious things to focus on and work on fixing.
I wish! School on Halloween and the day after are a nightmare! This makes so much sense!
They're proposing a phase on when Halloween in celebrated? Are they going to jail people that break this law? No? Then why make such a law? Oh yes, this is Mormon free will: make others do what I say.
Can we move Christmas and new years to Friday as well? Make life easier on everyone
October 31
This is dumb. It should be year round.
No. Halloween is Oct 31
No! No! No!
What a stupid idea. How about before you go changing Halloween, Christmas, Independence Day and whatever else you want to move around, we get rid of Daylight Savings time.
I’ve long argued do this ! No good reason not to Everybody wins!!
This is incredible dumb! Halloween is October 31st by definition. If people have a problem they can celebrate it earlier or later, but I won’t be answering the door!
This is an issue reps actually raised? So strange. Make the day after the Super Bowl something not this lol
Thanks for telling us what to do. We’d never be able to properly celebrate without our beloved legislature
Government overreach. No one cares what the clowns on the hill say.
Last Friday or Saturday in October.
Like anyone would change the day they actually go trick or treating...
You can't even make this shit up.
How about relief from taxes on groceries? I'm much more concerned about being able to afford Rent & Food instead of when to celebrate Halloween. Keep the Government out of our Holidays.
So glad to see our legislators working hard at tackling the real difficult topics in Utah like property taxes, overspending, inflation and holidays.
Don’t need to waste a legislative session on this. Let the local communities decided not the governments.
Next up we're moving New Years Day to Friday!
Oh good grief. Snowflakes.
This is so stupid 😳😳😳
This is an important issue. Thank god we are making legislation for it!
This is stupid. On Halloween. It's a calendar day. Can't just be moving them around all willy nilly.
Noooo!!!! utleg Don’t be ridiculous!
On Halloween 🎃 Day! wow_thatwashard
