NEW: Hall of Famer Lou Brock, one of baseball’s signature leadoff hitters and base stealers who helped the St. Louis Cardinals win 3 pennants and 2 World Series titles in the 1960s, has died at age 81, his agent says.

Brock’s death came after Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver died Monday. Brock and Seaver faced each other 157 times, the most prolific matchup for both of them in their careers.

A lifetime .293 hitter, he led the league in steals eight times, scored 100 or more runs seven times and amassed 3,023 hits. He was so synonymous with base stealing that in 1978 he became the first major leaguer to have an award named for him while still active — the Lou Brock Award, for the National League’s leader in steals. For Brock, base stealing was an art form and a kind of warfare. He was among the first players to study films of opposing pitchers and, once on base, relied on skill and psychology.

The soft-spoken Brock was determined no matter the score and sometimes angered opponents and teammates by stealing even when the Cards were far ahead. He also made two damaging mistakes that helped cost St. Louis the ’68 World Series.

He was one of the all time greats! RIP ⚾️

Circa 1968 Cards vs. Giants.. Got to Candlestick late, and reached our box seats down the first base line when a routine ground ball ending the first was turned into a bang-bang play because the hitter absolutely flew. It was so cool to see when he turned the jersey read: 'Brock'

Remember when the media did real investigative reporting how it was not the politically correct view of that week. Geraldo Rivera, thank you for your 50 years service to the media and the American people.

One of the greatest ever!

I knew the Redbirds would win tonight. I am just so sad, I wish he could have worn the red jacket one more time in Busch Stadium to start this season.

Well as long as she's happy and my kid's are safe and content

Well here, look., And by the way, I might add,. . What I would do is what we did in our administration.. I didn't like the bill.. Today are exting uished more, it would the most sacred American right that delivers service is on someone 's power

Prayers

ANOTHER REPUBLICAN QUID PRO QUO. They have absolutely no scruples. Turning political contributions into deductible salaries and wages is TAX FRAUD 101. Learned it from Orangeman.

Saw him get his 3000th hit in St Louis, vs Cubs' Dennis Lamp in July, 1979.

DeJoy reimbursing employee’s donations to Republicans In the form of raises and bonuses is not only a violation of election laws , state and Federal but are also fraudulent tax deductions, so by signing those tax returns he committed perjury. Another Trump admin criminal.

🙏👍✌️

All of you people that were doing this to people should be ashamed of yourselves for this

It doesn't matter on what people have wrong with them people if it is there family member they should be able to spend time with them and same thing if a person dies friends and family should be able to show up also but Flair had alot of people that knew him people

I hope he had a long blessed life.

R I P.

My thoughts and prayers to Mr. Brock and his family. One of the all time greats.

That “hook” slide

RIP there's a diamond up there for you

Death disproportionately affects People of Color. It is unfair and Trump encourages it. Why are whites so mean?

Stan, Bob, Red, Lou, Ozzy, Albert...

R.I.P Lou

💔💔💔

2020 is cancelled

RIP, Mr. Brock
