Guatemala’s presidential election is headed for a runoff after a low-turnout first round

Guatemala’s presidential election is headed for an August runoff between an ex-first lady and a former prisons director, after Sunday’s first round of voting in an impoverished country at the center of a regional migration crisis.

Sandra Torres, who faces accusations of illegal party financing, placed first, preliminary results showed, in a race from which several leading candidates, among them an anticorruption crusader, were barred from participating.
