Greg Oden, Braxton Miller, Kyle Snyder and Gene Smith are among 14 Ohio State legends who will be inducted into OSU’s Athletics Hall of Fame this fall.
Smith will be recognized as a Hall of Famer just over three months after he concludes his 19-year tenure as Ohio State’s athletic director next week. During his four seasons, the Buckeyes finished in the Top 4 nationally four times, including an NCAA runner-up finish in 2009. The team was a remarkable 139-11 during his four seasons and a perfect 41-0 in Big Ten regular season matches, winning the conference title each season.
He remains in the Top 5 in program history in the outdoor long jump , indoor long jump and the indoor triple jump . The 2011 USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Athlete of the Year also earned Big Ten Outdoor Athlete of the Year accolades the same season and was twice named Big Ten Outdoor Athlete of the Championships .
Mannino earned Third Team All-America honors following his sophomore season in 1993 and led the Buckeyes in home runs that season with 12. In 1994, he was an Honorable Mention All-American. He was a First Team All-Big Ten honoree in both 1993 and 1995 and was a Big Ten All-Tournament Team selection in 1993 and 1994.
After his one year, Oden went on to be the No. 1 overall selection by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2007 NBA Draft. He played parts of six seasons in the NBA before eventually returning to Ohio State in 2016 as a student manager. He spent three seasons as a manager and completed his sport industry degree in 2019. He also served as a graduate assistant for the program during the 2021-22 season.
