has insisted that there is enough energy in the electrical grid in the state, after a deadly ice storm hit southern United States, causing road accidents, power outages and travel disruption.
As of 7:58 a.m. ET, more than 400,000 homes out of 13 million in Texas were without power, according to data aggregator PowerOutage. The vast proportion was located in central and western parts of the state, under the Austin Energy and Oncor providers, though other grid operators were affected. In a tweet, Abbott said:"This graph shows that there has been plenty of power available on the grid all day today," referencing data from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas , which showed demand of over 63,000 megawatts compared with an electrical capacity of 71,000 megawatts.
Above, Texas Governor Greg Abbott speaks during a news conference on January 31, 2023, in Austin, Texas. Abbott held a meeting and news conference in preparation for the winter storm that is sweeping across portions of Texas, leaving hundreds of thousands without power.Earlier, the lone star state's governor had said that tree limbs were falling across the state, adding:"Many of them hit power lines and cause power to go out at the local level.
"Your local power provider is working to restore the power lines," he wrote."The power grid has maintained ample power supply for the entire state the entire time."

People in Austin are searching through garbage dumpsters searching for food right now. But let’s keep flying immigrants all over the country instead of helping the people of Texas feed their children.
😡😡😡
This is a rerun. What has the governor done, since the last weather-related catastrophe, to improve the system? Nada. So, just claim that there is plenty of power, wherever it may be, and look for someone else to blame. BTW, if there is power, then the distribution system sucks.
This article is missing just one question. Who owns and runs Austin Energy?
McCainSuzanne He's getting caught in lies and no results!
Our grid never once failed to generate and deliver all the electricity needed. unfortunately many local providers like in Austin didnt trim trees on easements because they wanted to save the oak trees. In some cases massive trees outside the easements froze and fell onto lines
McCainSuzanne Can’t feel sorry for people who re-elected the same trash that left them out in the cold last time around. Sorry.
