Since 2013, Forbes has been publishing an alternative measure of colleges' return-on-investment that takes more of a Marie Kondo approach to college ranking. We boil down the analysis to a single factor.
This year we tweaked our formula a tad by increasing the weighting of the three-year alumni participation rate to 35% from 30% in 2018. Total median dollar donations, which tend to favor super elite STEM schools like Caltech, with its median gift of $55,000 per student, were given a 65% weighting in the index.
