The Padres lost their starting second baseman for at least two months. It’s a position group that’s deep but the timing of Graham Pauley playing his first game of the season at second base on Thursday seems noteworthy. Having already played third, first and left field at Triple-A El Paso, Pauley played nine innings at second base in the Chihuahuas’ 11-7 loss to visiting Sacramento.
Wichita 8, Missions 0: LHP Robby Snelling allowed six runs — five earned — on eight hits and two walks in four innings in the loss. Two of the hits were homers. He’d allowed one home run before Thursday. CF Clay Dungan went 2-for-3 with a walk and LF Cole Cummings doubled for San Antonio’s only extra-base hit.
Lansing 8, TinCaps 2: LHP Miguel Cienfuegos allowed five runs in 5 ⅔ innings in the loss, snapping Fort Wayne’s seven-game winning streak. C Ethan Salas went 2-for-4 with a run scored and LF Tyler Robertson hit his fourth homer. LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE San Jose 6, Storm 5: SS Leodalis De Vries went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. 1B Romeo Sanabria went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Padres 9, Royals 5: RF Joshua Mears homered and drove in two runs in his second game off the injured list. 3B Yendry Rojas went 3-for-4 with an RBI, CF Kashon Conliffe drove in three runs on two hits and both SS B.Y. Choi and Conliffe doubled.
