Robert Unanue, Goya CEO since 2004, has come under fire for remarks he made about President Trump at a roundtable for Hispanic business leaders and the announcement of theexecutive order. “We’re all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Donald Trump, who is a builder,” Unanue said. “We have an incredible builder. And we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president, and we pray for our country — that we will continue to prosper and to grow.

In response, Latinx people, Goya customers, and basically anyone who remembers how Trump talks about immigrants and brown people criticized Unanue for his praise, and are calling for a boycott. As Goya is a brand that’s ubiquitous in many Latinx and immigrant households, as well as the home of anyone who knows adobo is good on everything, there was also a fair share of heartbreak.

I don’t see the big deal. My house is always divided. My husband supports trump, I don’t. My husband is also Puerto Rican, I’m Jamaican. People will always have their own opinion, he has that right. I don’t have to buy Goya, but I know others will. 🤷🏽‍♀️

In general boycotting brands bc of ones fragile emotions is moronic. You should be asking my a Hispanic owner company would support him. I think you’re eyes would be opened to much which makes boycotting a path of less enlightenment.

Maybe GoyaFoods should consider dumping their CEO and keeping their customers?

Austin It’ll be interesting to see if they can withstand the forthcoming 0.002% drop in revenue.

Maybe he should have thought about which side would be more profitable to support, because I'm pretty sure the numbers are not on the racist in chief's side.

Sad. Boycotting Goya only hurts Latino workers. Period. Latinos considering a boycott need to repent for their sins of anger, resentment, revenge, and spirit of condemnation. Shame on you and your hateful ignorance. You are being mislead and manipulated by mainstream media.

Austin There is literally no point in buying Goya beans when you can buy HEB brand for way cheaper.

And I’m sure you’ll cheer it on.
