BRIGHTON, England - The British government should have stepped in with a temporary rescue package for collapsed travel firm Thomas Cook, the opposition Labour Party’s finance spokesman John McDonnell said on Monday. “I’m disappointed ... I just think the government should have been willing to just do more: intervene, stabilize the situation and then allow a longer term plan to develop,” McDonnell told the BBC.

Why?

Labour's Marxist McDonnell the man who would have us fork out to save EVERY failing business, that's Communism for you. We will all be SKINT under these idiots, not just Thomas Cook's badly run travel business

That’s not a priority. Healthcare is!

The thing is, the 'government' doesn't have any money. The money belongs to the taxpayer! spendingotherpeoplesmoney

They could have called it 'InTourist' perhaps

should save? where do you learn from?

Why it's partly owned by German banks and EU doesn't allow any members to bail out companies

It's German owned

Labour are brilliant at spending other peoples money, thats why there was naff all in the pot when they lost power!!!

Don't worry. China government will buy Travel Firm Thomas Cook. Million tourists from China will fly all over the world. Some will never go back and stay in Chinatowns

Clueless.

Over here we call that a bailout, and it got us in alot of trouble.

How and why ?

TRHLofficial No.

Thomas Cook has approached UK government for bailout funds: FTBritain's Thomas Cook Group Plc has approached the UK government for a bail... Why don't they ask Germany their banks own it or the EU UK might not get the money back after Brexit that might be the plan If the government are planning to steam ahead with No Deal, what's the point of a bailout? People aren't going to have the money to travel and the £ will tank further so their would be customers will be even more squeezed. Bail him out of what? Sounds shaky to me.

Ailing Thomas Cook in talks with UK government and investors for rescue dealBritain's Thomas Cook is in talks with the government and potential investo... Uk government would be mad to bail them out... when compared to brexit a £200m black hole is nothing The logical move here would be for the UK gove to provide a 200 million bailout loan to TC for a share of the company to secure financing to keep it afloat. That would be cheaper than the government spending goodness knows how many hundreds of millions cleaning up its failure.
