“This emergency order will allow the state to use any and all state resources we need to cope with the drought,” Cox said during his monthly televised news conference on PBS Utah. “Last summer, I asked Utahns to pray for rain, which helped, but we’re certainly not relying solely on deity to solve our problems.”
Nearly the whole state is in a drought level considered “severe or worse,” while around 43% of the state is in an “extreme” drought. Cox added that Utah’s snowpack is 25% below normal levels for this time of year, while statewide reservoir storage currently sits at 59%.“We’re asking farmers, businesses, we’re asking citizens, institutions across the state to want to do their part to conserve and reduce water usage,” he said.
Fuck that I am going to pray.
Listen. First term. Things are rough. But you have to own silly statements.
The Governor should ask his “holier than thou” Republicans to drop the “let’s go Brandon” off the end of their prayers. It’s pretty much a joke to them but I’m not sure Jesus is in on it too.
Churches around here have abnormally green grass. I’ve even seen them watering during the hottest part of the day.
How about HOAs stop insisting we have green grass?
I’d really like a detailed plan of where the money is coming from and where it’s going to be spent.
Great shut off the water to the golf courses
What kind of a god only delivers half measures?
Praying? How about actually doing something more than ringing his hands? Here’s some 2000 year old technology. Time to pull your heads out of your collective a$$es!
Stop praying and start doing something useful! Maybe support the electrification of transport with generous tax incentives? It'll slow down climate change AND clean up Utah's disgusting and poisonous air.
Start with the golf courses
Prayers for moisture should do the trick
Wow. He is a confused guy.
🤣🤣
'I asked Utahns to pray for rain...which helped'. WHAT? HOW?!! How do you know it helped? Please, I am open to any proof of any tangible difference that praying helped with more rain. I don't care if my neighbor says something like that but this is the Governor!
Every time I think GovCox might be someone to get behind, he comes out with crap like praying as part of government policy.
Emergencies occur bc something was unforeseen or unprepared for. We saw this drought coming & did nothing. Some ppl in our water resource department need to be fired. We are staring in the face of a disaster that we can't haul in enough drinking water to fix. Soon a dead SLC.
Ahh, he learned. Look at him go. Probably won't help Utah's water problem but still
Oh but what about my constitutional freedom to water my lawn?
“Which helped” 😂😂😂
I for one am pleased to see him publicly acknowledge that prayers alone are NOT, it turns out, effective climate and resource management policy
82% of state water use goes to agriculture. Much of that goes to thirsty alfalfa, lots of which is exported to friendly places like China and the middle east. This is profitable because water prices are artificially low, subsidized by property taxes.
“Which worked.” 🤡
If there was a benevolent god, there would be no need for praying. There would be no drought.
Lol…I love UT but sometimes it’s too much of a comedy up in here
Wake the hell up Utah. Mismanagement of resources by the feds and state. That’s what we are dealing with. We were out of the drought 3, 4, 5 years ago now. Right back in it. VOTE FOR LEADERS WHO CAN STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT! Money is evil, but cough cough Mormon leaders love it
GovCox TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR MISMANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES. We were out of the drought 3-4 years ago and had plenty to go around. IMPLEMENT AND ENFORCE WATER LAWS. Green lawns are a joke. Dirty air is a joke. Get with the times.
This is a load of 💩 IMPLEMENT AND ENFORCE laws surrounding water use. Green lawns are not the new black. Complex I live in watered twice a day without any issue. Make sure we attract those renters. It’s called mismanagement of resources by our state leaders! Take accountability!
it was a miracle we had so much rain last summer GovCox
Does he sincerely believe that praying helped?
