Gov. Abbott, Texas officials react as Biden drops Trump-era migrant expulsions at border

Texas Govenor Greg Abott speaks during a press conference held at the Deputy Sheriff's Association of Bexar County office in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 11, 2022. Gov. Abbott apeared with border sheriffs today to announce his many endorsements from law enforcement groups as he runs for re-election.WASHINGTON — Texas Gov.

Texas Republicans on Friday voiced outrage as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced it was ending a Trump-era public health order known as Title 42 that the Biden administration has used to immediately expel migrants 1.2 million times since President Joe Biden took office. The order is set to end May 23.

Democrats, meanwhile, were praising the decision, saying Title 42 had undercut the nation's asylum system and was no longer defensible with a decline in COVID cases. Under the rule, migrants are denied the opportunity to plead their asylum cases. The administration has used Title 42 to expel migrants 426,819 times so far in the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, according to Customs and Border Protection data.

“Trekking hundreds or thousands of miles across dangerous terrain is not something people do when they have better options,” he said in a statement. “Those who seek asylum at our nation’s borders are fleeing from oppression and violence, and they just want a place where they can be safe.”

More anti-immigrant prejudice from Abbott. My great-grandparents immigrated to this country.

GovAbbotthas has no credibility. Under his watch: - highest rate of uninsured kids 💔 -trans kids in crisis 💔 -kids abused in foster care💔 -kids sex trafficked 💔 -kids killed daily by gun 💔violence -no abortions, even if a kid was raped💔

Texas voters know GovAbbott does not care about keeping communities safe 💔 AbbottFailedTexas As of March 29, 85,903 people who tested positive for the virus have died in Texas. 4,000 Texans died from gun violence in 2020,

Step 1: vote out Abbott. Not because of our borders, which are probably fine, but because no one’s safe under him. BetoForGovernor BetoORourke

Texas Republicans pushed Biden administration to keep rule that turns asylum-seekers away at the borderU.S. Sen. John Cornyn and several other Texas Republicans signed a letter in support of maintaining a pandemic-era rule that turns asylum-seekers away at the border. Well since his ancestors were all native born how can there be any hypocrisy in that. Why open the floodgates? They aren’t seeking asylum, they want welfare and to pay no taxes
