The Rhode Island lawmaker was widely denounced on social media following her message.

Patricia Morgan, a Republican in Rhode Island's House of Representatives, sparked outrage on social media after tweeting Tuesday that she once lost a Black friend because she's white.."I liked her and I think she liked me, too. But now she is hostile and unpleasant. I am sure I didn't do anything to her, except be white.

The lawmaker intended for her comments to be an attack on critical race theory, or CRT, but her remarks were interpreted as racist by many on social media, who responded with mockery or anger. Rhode Island state Representative Patricia Morgan is facing backlash for a tweet in which she said she lost a Black friend because she's white. Above, Morgan speaks during a legislative session on June 15, 2016.In March, Morgan co-sponsored a bill that would have banned CRT and other such"divisive concepts" from being taught in public schools.

I had a black friend. I liked her and I think she liked me, too. But now she is hostile and unpleasant. I am sure I didn't do anything to her, except be white. Is that what teachers and our political leaders really want for our society? Divide us because of our skin color?

Patricia Morgan, who has opposed critical race theory. “But now she is hostile and unpleasant. I am sure I didn’t do anything to her, except be White.” Did the black friend live in Canada? When a friend seems distant, most people think: - Was it something I did? - I recall times I was kind of crappy. - Maybe I should ask what I have done, or what's going on. Most people don't think: 'Oh, it must have been due to critical race theory.' Rep. Morgan is odd. Rhode Island has a GOP?
