Republican lawmakers led by Rep. Jodey Arrington of Texas are questioning a move by the Interior Department to list two types of mussel found in the Rio Grande as endangered.

The Center for Immigration Studies fellow Todd Bensman weighs in on the Biden administrations plans to get Texas to remove its floating barriers on ‘Fox & Friends.’: Republican lawmakers are quizzing the Biden administration on a decision to list two mussels as endangered, a move which couldto build a buoy barrier in the Rio Grande — with the lawmakers expressing concern that it may be politically motivated.

Rep. Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, speaks during the House Budget Committee meeting titled Consideration of Committee Rules and Oversight Plan in the Cannon Building in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 9, 2023. "It is worth noting that a petition for the Salina mucket was filed in 2007 and for the Mexican fawnsfoot in 2008," they say."That means, the Service sat on these petitions for more than fourteen years before making a listing decision on these species."

The Salina mucket mussel, inset, which may be found in the Rio Grande, was recently proposed for the endangered species list — a move which could complicate efforts by Texas to build a buoy barrier on the river.
