Arizona, one of the most bitterly divided swing states, just finalized a new congressional map that could hand the GOP six of its nine congressional districts in 2022

Arizona, one of the most bitterly divided swing states, finalized a new congressional map that could hand the GOP six of its nine congressional districts in 2022.

“The map achieves what Democrats say they want nationally. It maximizes the number of competitive seats in Arizona,” said Adam Kincaid, the executive director of the National Republican Redistricting Trust. “There's three good Republican seats. There's two or three good Democrat seats. And then there's three to five competitive seats, depending on the cycle.”

The partisan bickering ultimately resulted in changes that left the Schweikert and open Tucson seats more competitive. And the two Democratic commissioners, two Republicans commissioners and the chair all voted for it. Top Democratic candidates include state Sen. Kristen Engel and state Rep. Daniel Hernandez Jr., who was injured in 2011 during the Tucson shooting as an intern for then-Rep. Gabby Giffords .

The biggest unknown now is the fate of O’Halleran, a three-term Democratic moderate, who must decide whether to seek reelection in a district that became significantly more Republican, or retire. A Chicago police officer-turned Arizona state legislator, O’Halleran waffled from Republican to independent to Democrat before he was elected to Congress in 2016.

will take in all of Yavapai, transforming it from a seat Biden won by 2 points to one Trump would have carried by 8 points.

House committee seeks to interview GOP firebrand Rep. Jim Jordan about January 6The House select committee investigating January 6 has asked Rep. Jim Jordan, one of former President Donald Trump's top congressional allies, to voluntarily meet with the panel as it zeroes in on Republican lawmakers who may have significant knowledge of events leading up to the US Capitol attack. Merriam-Webster Webster defines “firebrand” as one that creates unrest or strife. Synonyms incude agitator, fomenter, inciter and instigator. Not quite the wonderful label he and Matt Gaetz think it is. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 GOP firebrand who ignored the pleas of his students to stop the sexual abuse they suffered. Jordan did nothing. Not a thing.
