General Motors says it will spend more than $900 million to update four factories, with the bulk going to an engine plant in Flint, Michigan, to build the next-generation V8 for big pickup trucks and SUVs.

That means the new V8 will have to get better mileage and pollute less than the current versions. Although GM wouldn’t release details on the new engine, Johnson said during a news conference at the Flint plant that it would be more efficient than the current version.

“We know that has a horizon,” he said. “Between here and there, there are a lot of internal combustion customers that we don’t want to lose,” he said.

Ah now I understand the meaning of sunk costs.

Mr Johnson and his comments about gas engines beyond 2030 sounds like the execs at Nokia and Blackberry circa 2008 telling everyone at the end of qtrly reports that people still want physical keys and will continue to do so into the future and the iPhone is a gimmick

Engine? Doesn't sound very electric.

Well at least one car company doesn’t have its head up it’s ass.

Sounds like GM has finally figured out where the money is made. It’s not EV’s.

Woohoo

Correction. Advancing the power of media enable message control, globaly.

We’re calling them murdermobiles.

I would stick with the LT1. Its not the best time for investing in new engine designs.

Lol What about EV motors?

While admirable, can you imagine if they put the power of all that money into 'encouraging' the State & City Government to provide Flint residents (GM's potential employees and future cutomers) with clean damn drinking water? How cool would that be?

Thanks JoeBiden

Does flint have clean water yet?

Really going hard into that electric market I see

It’s a smart investment to continue to refine ICE as long as they’re going to be used to power the largest new car market segment of trucks and SUVs - as long as they’re going to be used we should strive to make them as efficient as possible
