And then you haveDonald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, whose dealings with Ukraine are a key facet of the impeachment case, has been lobbying the president to join his legal team on the Senate floor during his upcoming trial.

For its part, the White House, which is not typically known for making the best strategic decisions, has seemingly that having what basically amounts to the president’s coconspirator represent him on the Senate floor wouldn’t be the best plan:are expected to lead the president’s defense on the Senate floor, but are also expected to be joined by additional lawyers as the trial goes on, sources said....

“The president is never going to have him in the Senate trial, starting with the problem that he’s a potential witness,” one source close to Trump told CNN. But fear not—Politico that Giuliani will still be all over the airwaves with his ad hoc defense of the president, “whether Trump’s in-house legal team likes it or not.”
