Megan Meng of Hopewell Valley shows her medal after winning the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 tournament on Monday at Twisted Dune Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township.Megan Meng of Hopewell Valley did something Monday that is believed to be a first in New Jersey scholastic sports history.
Meng teed off right alongside the boys on the 6,759-yard layout, firing a 69 before being forced to wait nearly two hours to see if any of the boys would catch her. “I would have said no,” Meng said. “At the same time, I did think about it today. I just think it is really cool that I am able to compete with everybody.”
“It doesn’t even matter that I am being outdriven by 80 yards on these holes. I can still feel like I can compete, and I never felt like I was at a disadvantage.”In her freshman season, she finished second at her NJSIAA sectional tournament, then followed that up with a seventh place finish in 2022 and a fourth place finish in 2023.
