A grove of ancient sequoias, including the 275-foot General Sherman Tree -- the largest in the world -- were getting aluminum cladding to fend off the flames.
"They are taking extraordinary measures to protect these trees," said park resource manager Christy Brigham, according to The Mercury News.Millions of acres of California's forests have burned in this year's ferocious fire season. On Thursday, two fires were looming down on the park's Giant Forest, home to five of the world's largest trees, including the General Sherman.
The enormous trees of the Giant Forest are a huge tourist draw, with visitors travelling from all over the world to marvel at their imposing height and extraordinary girth.
