Draft legislation in Ghana would make identifying as gay or even an ally to the LGBTQ community a 2nd-degree felony punishable by 5 years in prison — with advocating for LGBTQ rights punishable by up to 10 years.

Same-sex conduct is already a crime in the West African country, with violators facing a three-year sentence, but the new Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill seeks to criminalize identifying as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, pansexual, nonbinary, queer, an ally “or any other sexual or gender identity that is contrary to the binary categories of male and female,” according to aAdvocating for the rights of anyone in those categories — through speech,...

A vote has not been scheduled on the bill, but it has support among parliamentarians, especially in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party. “Whether the bill passes or not depends a lot on how much work the LGBTQ movement can do to shift the conversation, how much advocacy can be done with the legal sector,” Wamari added. “Depending on how much work is done, the bill could be thrown out.”

LGBTQ Ghanaians frequently report being subject to violence from both mobs and family members, according toIn 2015, members of a homophobic gang known as the Safety Empire lured numerous gay men in Ghana’s capital, Accra, via Facebook, then beat their victims and posted the assaults on social media. In one attack, a man was “stripped naked and whipped mercilessly with belts, sticks and sharp metal,” according.

Wow!! What an awful place with awful leadership! & we thought trump was bad

Why is the UN not stepping in?

Congrats Ghana 🇬🇭 ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

LOL , some people don't want to realize that more than 90% of this planet population oppose LGBT movement !

🤨😡

Insanity! This is human right infringement. People should be allowed to identify themselves with whatever class of sexual orientation they want. INSANITY!!!

Not our bussiness

Ghana deserves better.

Death penalty should be okay for LGBTQ

They should be sentenced for life rather.

If your father was LGBTIQ+, would you be here tweeting? This depopulation agenda will not wash with my beloved Ghana! Maybe you guys should also try and legalize polygamy or u say polygamists are not humans, we don't have rights? Go preach this to the Arabs.

If passed, we should end any aid

Ghana gonna be stupid.

Hardly surprising considering the President & First Lady are royalty, were raised & educated as christians & govern a country dominated by religious interests, both christian & muslim. This is consistent with global persecution of LGBTQ by christianity.

The best news from Ghana in years

If you're so insecure in your sexuality that you fear another's sexual proclivities would influence you, then the problem is you. Africa's citadels of learning are populated by pseudo intellectuals who support the idiocy of Ghana's parliament to distract from their failings.

That's vary conservative of them

Yikes

And people whine about America…

🛑🛑 Giving them foreign aid then... they are 🗑🗑🗑🗑

Praying for equality and acceptance.........

Must be a nation full of gay people for them to be so terrified. Usually overt homophobia signifies the oppressor is extremely homosexual and in denial.

Defund chocolate…🤷‍♂️

Then the US needs to cut political, economical, and security ties with the Ghanan Government.

Good for Ghana.. standing up to all this Woke BS.

So, sanctions? Embargo? Invasion? Or nothing? It's nothing, isn't it?

Well.. i know where i'm NEVER going to for vacation...
