Germany must up defense spending, relying on U.S. "offensive" - U.S. envoyRichard Grenell U.S. Ambassador to Germany attends the"Rally for Equal Rights at the United Nations " aside of the Human Rights Council at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, March 18, 2019. REUTERS/Denis Balibouse
“It is offensive to assume that the U.S. taxpayers continue to pay for more than 50,000 Americans in Germany but the Germans get to spend their surplus on domestic programs,” Grenell told the dpa news agency. U.S. complaints about Germany’s defense spending pre-date Trump but relations with the United States have deteriorated since he became president.
Georgette Mosbacher, U.S. Ambassador to Poland, has made a similar criticism of Germany’s reluctance to commit more financial resources to NATO. “President Trump is right and Georgette Mosbacher is right,” Grenell told dpa. “Multiple presidents have asked Europe’s largest economy to pay for its own defense. This request has been made over many years and by many presidents.”
... so if 2% not reached, foreig army troops will leave Germany? Too nice to be true... Would they move to Poland? Good luch escalating situation with Russia. Putin needs that external enemy focus as much as Trump...
Germany remembers why its military is limited. I guess the Rump administration doesn’t.
And the Germans will say, go home GI
Nope! we must not. It is ridiculous. Germany will lead with a European Army I guess and Europe will be more independent. That is what really scares Trump America and Putin Russia. A strong Europe. A united Europe and a EU that is on par with Russia, China and America ..!
No! ENOUGH WITH THE ARMS RACE!!! The MilitaryIndustrialComplex = MerchantsOfWar = MerchantsOfDeath are collecting big bucks for lobbying politicians into this!!! Stop the ForeverWars and invest in the people who you have been elected to serve!!
'Yo Germany, help pad out our military industrial complex with those sweet, sweet Euros'
